Step by step guide for students to create hands on and digital responses to the designer Sven Pfrommer.
Students begin by drawing citiscapes in an illustrative manner using fineliners and tipex. Abstract acrylic backgrounds are created before the two are imposed on each other.
The slides include very basic written instructions of how to complete the piece using Photopea, but can be adapted to Photoshop.

The first task is a digital based tutorial which walks students through a low poly tutorial to create a geometric self portrait. This allows students to consider the face in a 3D format and appreciate the full range of skin tones within any face.
Students then move on to applying these various tones by mixing colours and painting over their digital piece.
Finally, students are encouraged to work in the style of Lucian Freud to complete their own expressive self portrait. They should be able to apply the skin tones and contour directions from tasks one and two to complete their piece.
Presentation to introduce Hokusai’s The Great Wave and inspire students to work together to create a recycled version of the piece.
Includes an example from a Year 6 group, as well as 4 other famous paintings completed by previous groups.
A set of tasks used during the original distance learning. The three tasks (and extensions) direct each student into research, pastiche and caricature of a given artist.
Students were assigned a prominent artist from the past 150 years and tasked with responding to the tasks.
Once complete, the work can be displayed in a timeline format or placed onto a website to aid with Art History understanding.
Suitable for KS3 and KS2. List of artists used and tracking feedback sheet included, but can be modified.
A Powerpoint exploring the theme of jungle through typography and illustration.
The slides begin with a step by step guide to creating a leafy letter using Photopea. Students then develop an illustrated book cover for the Jungle Book using Henri Rousseau’s paintings as inspiration.
Originally used during online learning, there are differentiated tasks to consider resources found at home and online accessibilty.
Presentation introducing students to creating zines as a way of presenting projects. The slides take you through a brief history and holds videos of mini documentaries and how to begin your own outcome.
The presentation can be adapted to reflect any completed project or used as a starting point to collect visual ideas and recordings.
Excellent stimulus to encourage wider thinking on complex issues within society and how to visually represent them.
A set of slides introducing the work of illustrator Ben Brown. The lesson can be used as a substantial starting point to encourage students to explore anatomy and skull drawings.
Slides include a bell activity, starter, discussion points and main body of work. Work can then be developed over a series of weeks in an illustrative style.
A comprehensive collection of slides which introduce the basic facial proportions of portrait drawing. Students are lead through front and side sketches in the style of Efran Malo before completing a cross hatching self portrait.
The slides also cover dry point etching and printing using cereal boxes. These are linked to the work of Andy Warhol and colourful collage backgrounds. Lots of student examples are provided to aid this stage of the project. A digital Photopea tutorial is also provided for those learning from home or in need of extension work.
Finally, a home task in the style of Vik Muniz allows students to think about meaning and concept within portraiture.
Presentation guiding students through a digital drawing of Frida Kahlo and subsequent inspirational poster design. The project celebrates Frida and her iconic style, rather than her paintings, but does offer some narrative and video links to her personal story and background.
Although a digital project, this could be adapted to traditional drawings.
A lesson introducing students to the theme of Day of the Dead in Art & Design. Students are given background information about the festival, including traditions, symbols and meanings.
The task allows students to work collaboratively to create a joint papal picado bunting. There are excellent Maths links throughout the lesson, as well as literacy opportunities.
Day of the Dead outcomes can then be developed in following lessons.
Presentation giving instruction to a group Christmas drawing challenge. Each student is allocated one of 20 squares to complete using tonal shading. Once complete, the squares place together to create a large scale drawing of The Grinch.
This was originally carried out as a remote, online task and images pasted together digitally. It may adapted easily for in class purposes.
A unit of work centered around the British Pop artist, Peter Blake. The slides introduce students to the Pop Art movement before directing a self portrait in the style of the iconic artist.
Students will also consider collage and modern popular culture whilst creating their own ‘Sources for Pop Art’.
The final task is a cross curricular challenge to produce a collaged vinyl record design, in the style of Blake’s ‘Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Heart Club Band’, depicting 10 key events in History.
A presentation introducing the street art of Malaysia. Students are guided through inspiration and talking points on the value of street art and more culturally aware designs by Ernest Zacharevic.
Originally completed during distance learning, students completed a drawing or painting which interacted with the selection of blank wall space suggested in the slides.
Once complete, a simple overlay using SCREEN on Photoshop allowed them to superimpose their designs onto their building or textural surface.
A presentation and tutorial to guide students through the work of Temi Coker, creating a mixed media digital poster as an end product.
Students are to draw a portrait of an inspirational figure from back history before piecing together a poster design, in the style of Temi Coker.
Basic Photoshop instruction provided with room for students to make their own copy of the presentation and add their development as they progress. Analysis prompts and written tasks are also provided throughout the presentation.
Brief scheme of work aimed at a Y12 induction to Graphic Design. The scheme of work begins with students studying Rauschenberg’s collage screenprints and interprets them into modern collage pieces.
Eventually, students are lead to create a social media ident which introduces them to basic After Effects functions.

The scheme is structured as a mini GCSE project, encouraging students to work in their chosen style and generate their own ideas. The process covers research, planning, refinement, experimentation and completing a final outcome.
